What I do, how I do it, and why you should trust me to do it for you.

Sometimes, there's just nothing that quite does exactly what you need on the market, or you have a business where there's no standard software to manage the processes; if you're a one-man shop, that might not matter, but when a business starts to grow you will very likely need software that aligns with your processes, and there might not be any.

A bespoke application can help with this by being designed specifically to your requirements; my development process is designed to ensure that all requirements are captured from stakeholders, and that when you need to grow, the software can grow with you.

In the world of agentic coding, software design and a good process becomes more important than ever. Anybody with a subscription that lets them use an agent might be able to create software now, but it takes an experienced engineer to know if what comes out the other end will do what it's meant to, if it will scale, and where the risks lie.

Bespoke Application Builds

Built to your requirements, designs not vibes, and engineered to grow with you.

In addition to bespoke software development, I offer website builds based on the Umbraco Content Management System. This is an open-source content management system that allows complete freedom in the design and build of your website.

Umbraco Upgrades and Migrations

Umbraco 13 is End of Life as of December 2026. This means it won't receive any more updates, even security updates.

If you're currently on version 13 (or earlier), you should definitely consider migrating to the latest Long Term Supported version, for both security and performance reasons. Running an unsupported version has always been a risk; in a world where AI agents exist, the business case for upgrading is stronger than ever.

Umbraco Migrations

Assistance with Umbraco upgrades and migrations to new versions.

I've worked with Umbraco since version 7. I've built, maintained, and migrated sites from Umbraco 7 all the way up to Umbraco 18, many of them created by other developers or clients, with integrations ranging from ticketing systems to data pulled from an Oracle database and presented as XML to be transformed into an Umbraco page.

If you need somebody you can trust to migrate an Umbraco site, feel free to contact me.

Umbraco Development

Assistance with Umbraco websites, packages, and development.

If you're looking for additional resource for your software development team, especially if it's .NET- or Umbraco-based, I can help with that.

I have 30 years of experience in building software, and 20 years of that has been as an independent developer. I have experience in all versions of .NET since 1.1, and before that I was building applications in VB6 using SQL Server. I've worked in sectors from database marketing (and what would now be called "big data"), to education, public services, automotive, and travel.

I have a fundamental understanding of the object-oriented paradigm, SOLID, clean code, software architecture and Design Patterns; I have experience building scalable systems that can cope with thousands of concurrent users, designing and building APIs, integrations with other systems, and writing code with tests that ensure correctness and performance.

In the Brave New World of agentic coding, I use a disciplined, multi-step, spec-based workflow that ensures that what an agent writes matches the requirements it was given and ensures a "human in the loop" approach that delivers significant productivity gains while facilitating correctness.

Although I've embraced agentic workflows, I started from a place of scepticism (the first project I used Claude Code on was specifically created to disprove the claims that were being made for it), and maintain a healthy level of suspicion about any code written by an agent; I've been bitten more than once by strange assumptions an agent made (with issues caught in testing, of course), and therefore am very careful about examining any code they write.
